The Mark McGwire Steroid Exhibit. Showing at Madame Tussauds next month!!
Over the past week, more sports news was released, that to me, was not really shocking news. Mark McGwire took steroids, and he didn’t just do them, he did them a lot. I mean, he dug them. So it’s official- if you have tree trunks for arms and you are over the age of 30, hitting home runs with no effort… there is a chance you are juicing.
The real part of this story that needs to be addressed is that Roger Marris needs his record re-established in some capacity. If you do not know this, Marris holds the single season record of home runs at 61, that he established in 1961. During the ‘98 season, McGwire and Sammy Sosa broke his record, with McGwire establishing the new record at 70.
A few seasons later, Barry Bonds broke that record at 73. With McGwire out of the steroid closet, and with Sosa sure to follow, and Bonds most likely going to prison for lying to congress, the use of the asterisk surely must come into place.
The main reason McGwire came out is mostly because he wants to get into the Hall Of Fame. The only way McGwire will get into the hall is if the hall decides to open a steroid section. I can imagine it now, with big plastic syringes and an arm the size of the blue whale at the Museum of Natural History. I would love Madame Tussuad’s wax figures of Sosa and McGwire, from their rookie years and their last years of baseball, to show the differences in their bodies… thanks to the wonderful enhancements.
I wonder if their dealers would be eligible for induction into the Hall Of Fame as well?
